Yup, it's true I just found out about it today too. It is supposed to be a bill to reduce the number of eyesores from garbage on private property. Unfortunately in the eyes of the legislature, restoration projects are garbage.

Here is a link for the whole bill, HB560: http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=126_HB_560

It basically says that if a township trustee determines you have a junk car on your property, they can force you to remove it with a seven day notice, afterwards they tow it -at your expense of course!

In OHIO: "junk motor vehicle" means a motor vehicle that meets all of the following criteria:

(1) Three model years old, or older;

(2) Apparently inoperable;

(3) Extensively damaged, including, but not limited to, any of the following: missing wheels, tires, engine, or transmission.

This means that your classic in the back yard with no engine is legally a junk car which a township trustee can force you to remove from the premises.

Personally I feel we need less lawmaking that reduces what I can do on my PERSONAL property and just better enforcement of current. Most towns already have local ordnances that deal with eyesores, this bill applies to anywhere on your land!

Texas ( think it was Texas anyway ) had a proposed bill like that, never happened.

anyway if it goes thru, just put up a tent garage around it, could be blue tarps and a 2X4 frame or a actual tent garage like that from www.shelterlogic.com or the like. because it legally becomes a garage and cannot be seen, they cannot go in it to retrive the " Junk " that may be in it.

Many Texas cities and towns and villages have similar laws on the books and vehicles are towed regularly in those that do have those regs and enforce them. Some make exceptions for antique vehicles, some don't. Some let you get away with the tarp cover, some don't. Some let you get away with a carport style cover, and some don't. Some require the dead vehicle be hidden from view from the street, some don't.
Most "redtag" the vehicle (that being car, truck, trailer, boat, boat trailer, car trailer, travel trailer, motorhome, motorcycle, etc.) which gives the property owner from 10 days to 30 days to remove the problem or modify its condition or mode of storage to comply with the ordinance. Then a citation is issued (usually worth $100-plus), then a tow-order is issued and the problem is removed by a city authorized tow & storage service under police supervision if need be. If you don't have paperwork on the vehicle showing ownership it is then lost to you and sold at auction in weeks or months from the time of towing.

These ordinances were not written to bother car aficianados but rather to put the cabosh on the scumbag puds who fill their yards and curbsides with junkvehicles and just plain junk because they are heathens.
