Hey, I got some Pontiac Fiero seats-the cool ones with the stereo speakers built in. I want to take the tracks off so that I can get them(the seats) recovered and so that I can modify the tracks for mounting in my car. Anybody know how these things come apart? There seems to be some sort of stop, keeping the seat from sliding off the track, but I can't locate the release. Thanks

You dont want to split the top and bottom track apart. You want to remove the entire track assembly from the seat frame. There should be four bolts holding the sliding tracks to the frame.

Yep - four bolts.. You just have to slide the tracks all the way forward to get at the back bolts and all the way back for the forward bolts. I've had good luck with other tracks bolting on to them (i.e. mounting Fiero seats in other vehicles). Those are comfy seats!

While you're having them re-upholstered, it's a good time to put some decent speakers in the headrests. Here's an article on replacing/adding the speakers: http://www.mrmikes.com/addspeakers.htm

Thanks for the advice. I have seen MrMike's article on speaker replacement. There ain't much room in a Model A to mount these things, so bolting them in with the tracks on will be a challenge(like everything else). In fact, I am going to have to take one track apart and reverse the brackets so it will clear the door.

Just a thought - would it work if you reversed the tracks? I mean, mount the left seat track on the right seat?
