Pulled distributor to set rottor to TDC one. When I pulled the distributor the oil pump shaft apears to have been pulled upwards and the distributor will not seat all the way down now. Any info. on how to set the oil pump shaft back into its propper position would be great help. Thank You. :welcome:

First the oil pump drive shaft has to be reinstalled onto the oil pump gear stub. If there was a plastic collar like the stock engines used, this has likely broken, allowing the shaft to lift out w/the distributor.

You could look down the distributor hole to see if the plastic collar is still on the pump gear stub, remove it if it is. Then either replace the plastic collar or better yet buy a steel shaft w/a steel collar attached to the shaft.

Reinstall the shaft, then reinstall the distributor. You may need to turn the shaft using a long screwdriver to get the distributor to drop all the way in. Some guys will bump the starter while dropping in the distributor (need a helper or remote starter switch) to get it lined up.

Then set the timing.

The way we set the oil pump slot if needing to re-time one testing engines at the Chevy engine plant was TDC number one and the slot front to back straight adjusted with a long screwdriver.

look and see if shaft is in properly ,, set engine tdc ,,, direct rotor to #1 cap terminal gently push distributor down while watching rotor and bump it over ..... Tadaaaaaa ......if rotor moves with engine rotation everything should be good !!
