Hello
Is 18ga or 20ga sheet metal a better choice for making body patch panels? If either will work, does one have the advantage over the other?
thanks.

18 is a little harder to cut but otherwise I like working the heavier metal. Makes it a little more difficult to get into trouble than with the lighter gauge.

agree w/above- 20 will form easier, but 18 will last... and last...!!! I too, prefer to match to panel it is installed in- same gauge will be more consistent.

thanks for the help guys. I think the body is 20ga or thinner, not to strong [48 thames panel] so if 20 will work I'm going to go with that. I am going to weld it with mig so I don't think I can hammer weld it anyway,so I've been told.
