Do I have to replace the holes with metal or can I use fiberglass?
Does it matter to the in the grand scheme of things if I just use glass and move on with my life?

Move on if you like, but you will be reliving it all over again sooner if you don't weld metal in there.

Moral..................Use metal, not glass.......................

you are better off to use metal.
and a plastic type body filler.
usually fiberglass will not look right on the finished product
(speaking from personal experience).
