If you get them from a reputable, reliable source*, they're "good enough for rocket ships" according to NASA. There are some requirements for using them. See section 19.6 (starts at bottom of page 81 of this document) of https://standards.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/standards/NASA/A/4/nasa-std-87394a_w_change_4_0.pdf

I've used them on shielded signal wires before to attach a ground wire to the shield. I've never used them for any other connections, but for that application, they work really nicely.

* Amazon.com is not a reputable source for reliable parts and materials.

I never used them because if they melt that fast with a heat gun, they'll melt even faster if the wire gets hot. The only thing worse than an overheated wire blowing a fuse is a dead short blowing a fuse when the wire de-solders itself.

Plus, I own a soldering iron.

Yeah the cheap knock-off ones suck. The cheapo ones tend to require higher heat to achieve the solder joint and that temp is very close to the melt/burn temp of the heat shrink on them which is also often not far from most wiring insulation limits. I've used them a couple times in tight areas. Not my favorite.
