Weigh the hood anywhere on its length with a bathroom scale, at the front radiator shroud is probably most convenient. Now measure the distance from the center of the scale to the hinge point of the hood. Multiply the distance in feet times the weight in pounds and you have the moment you want. To be safe, weigh the hood with the springs (if it has springs) removed.

ft lbs it would take to open a car hood?

what would be the formula to figure out how much ft lbs it would take to open a car hood?
Really simple. attach a half inch square hole in a metal bracket to the heading edge of the hood, maybe at the hood latch. Insert a ft lbs torque wench into the square hole and lift the hood using the wrench. Start off low and increase the value until one may lift the hood without the tool clicking.

Good luck.
