Hello,
I am working on a '96 Camaro about ready to goto paint, I am taking the car back its original black but looking to do a little different. I have a gallon of Spanish Gold Kandy (HOK) some silver and white pearl. Is what i have in mind is after base coat using the pearl for outlined flames, then going over entire car with the gold candy. How does anyone fill that this would look, and does anyone have pics of gold candy over black base?

Thanks Reflynn

You better have HOK base black down before you spray the candy. You go trying to paint HOK on another base you may have problems down the road. When I paint, I always stick with one brand of primer and stick with the same brand color coat and clear coat.

You might go to your local Paint dealer that carry's the HOK.They will have the color chips so you can see the difference with the different bases. I've tried searching online for those, but haven't had much luck.

I would be concerned about running the Kandy over the pearl as I think it would kill the pearl..were it mine i would do the kandy then airbrush some ghosting over the kandy with the pearl..

Last weekend, I was at automotive paint specialties. In they're book, they listed all the candy's and had chips showing the difference in shade when shot over all the different bases. It is actually pretty amazing how much the shade changed with the different bases.

The candy really wont show up over the black. There are a few candys that will, like cobalt blue...after enough coats you can tell but it's very very faint. Any time you are doing a custom job like that, get some scrap metal and practice the colors on that. The last thing you want is to mess up on the car and with that urethane candy, you'll be in trouble.

Is the kandy a UK or KBC?
With the "real" kandy,UK,it's actually a cool effect over black and it will really only be seen in the sunlight. I've seen Pagan Gold over black and it's nice.Spanish is a lighter shade and may pop a little more.
If you spray the pearl first,it's just going to be "gold" regardless of it being white or silver, just more pronounced with silver and some sparkle, basically gold metallic, which may be what you want, gold metallic ghost flames.
If it's KBC,Forget it. It will cover and basically be "gold".
You can use the UK over most any base as long as it's flashed off completly and I always add some catylist in the base for added insurance because your about to hammer the snot out of it with basically several wet coats of "clear" so if your base is still "wet" or weak,it can wrinkle or bleed on you.
As Vince said,Try some test panels to get your desired effect.
