I went to buy a set of Bosch plugs for my 350, I was asked if I wanted plugs with a 1, 2, or 4 electrodes. I thought the 2 and 4 electrodes seemed like a gimmick so I went with the good old regular style plug. I've been searching trying to find out if in fact there are any minor gains in horsepower or efficiency with the 2 or 4 electrode plug, but I haven't found anything. Is there any true to this, or is it just a marketing ploy?

I don`t think there is any gain at all with them, unless there`s a way to set both gaps at the exact same width from the center, the spark will arc to the closest one every time. I remember when split fires came out, lots of guys I knew got them, I never seen one of them all that kept them in over 2 weeks.

I'm from the school of running a quality plug (2 bux or less) and a GREAT set of wires with a STRONG spark.

Unless you really need the edge, you have a mild 350 in a street-machine. Buy some street plugs!

Did you make sure of the reach and such from the part number of the heads and stuff?

yeah my buddy had a 327 with some world heads. Thing never ran right, ran like crap for a year! He had the wrong plugs in it. Brand new MSD, nice wires, new carb all the goodies.

Came down to a crap set of plugs! (incorrect specs) Most of us probably would have checked sooner, but its something always to think about. If tires are where your car meets the road, plugs are where your motor does the same-

My wifes 1965 Triumph 650 Motorcycle has a bad valve guide on the left cylinder and uses a little oil thru it. We would foul that plug often enough for it to be a pain. I put a set of Bosch Platinum plugs with the 4 bar electrodes in the engine about two months ago an haven't lost a plug since. I have noticed a slight missfire at idle but attribute that to the fact that we still are running a low output point system. Off idle it picks up and sounds great.

ps. The bike is sceduled for a rebuild this winter but it's still riding season here and the wife says "stay away from my bike, I'm riding it!"

When the Splitfire plugs first came out, my stepdad tried a pair in his H.D. while it was on a chassis dyno. He told me they made 2-3 less rwhp than a set of regular AC Delco plugs.

we were building a 350 in a class i took in school and we put a set of the 4 elec. plugs and got a WHOPPING .10 hp gain. yes that is one tenth of a hp gain. some people might get a better response but we were not impressed especially after we found out the cost.
