I'm not sure this is the right forum, but I didn't see one specifically for stereo's.
Hello all. Just wanted to pose a question to all the knowledgeable stereo guys out there. I’m looking at doing a few upgrades to my 2008 Shelby GT500 with the Shaker 500 system. I’m looking for suggestions for the 5x7’s (6x8’s) for the door and rear deck.
I’ve already decided that I’m going with the:

Pioneer MVH-S622BS head unit.
Continuous Power Output = 22 W x 4-Channel
Load Impedence Allowance = 4 Ohm (4 Ohm to 8 Ohm Allowable)
Max Power Output = 50 W x 4-ch 4 ohm / 50 W x 2-ch 4 ohm + 70 W X 1-ch (subwoofer) 2 Ohm
RCA Preamp Outputs = 6-ch
RCA Preout Voltage = 4V
RMS Power Output (CTA-2006) = 14 W RMS x 4-ch 4 ohm

Shelby Kicker 8-in Sub in the front doors.
Long throw, poly cone design with a 20hz to 200hz frequency response. (Sticking with the factory amp for now, but will be upgrading to a another amp later).

Just looking for suggestions. I’m not trying to build a monster system. I took the door panels off to have the sagging insert fixed and I had been hearing some crackling in the front driver side speaker. So, I figured while I had the panels off, I would go ahead and do something about that speaker. I’ve called Crutchfield, but they’re suggesting a set of Focal speakers, but I’m not trying to break the bank. Just looking for a decent set of speakers that will give me a little better sound than the stock speakers. Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have always heard that different people prefer different sounding speakers.. I know that's not a very precise way of saying it but I just woke up..

So how about going to Best Buy and just listen to their various speakers ?? Then come home and order them online to get them cheaper..

As far as opinions go I think I would keep your subwoofer location in the rear.. low frequencies go around corners very easily unlike high frequencies. My 12-in is in the trunk and you would think it's in the back seat. (The 1600 watt power amp helps)

Glue some waterproof sound deadening inside the doors and cover as much of the outside and inside skin as possible. Plus if you're lucky enough to have doors that stay dry inside stuff some more fiberglass in there too..

I agree with your sub location opinion. I wonder why Ford put it in the doors for the Shaker 500, but in the trunk for the Shaker 1000.

FYI - when I had my 2005 GT with Shaker 500, Ford had issues with the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) running down the battery. I finally figured out that if I left CDs in the Shaker 500 changer, sometimes the system would not completely shut off when you shut off the car. I came back to the vehicle once and as I sat down I could hear the CD changer constantly shuffling CDs even though the ignition was off. Overnight it would completely run down the battery. I learned to eject all the CDs every time to ensure this would not happen.

It's funny you say that. I bought this car last year. Since I've had it, I've had a problem with the battery draining. I never put any CD's in the unit because I don't play CD's but I wonder if its possible that the PO left some in there by mistake and that's my issue? It's a long shot, but I will check that this evening when I get back home.

wouldn't a 2008 head unit have all the vehicle sounds thru it?
my 09 gmc has all warnings, blinkers, seatbelt, etc thru the head unit.
it's getting hard to swap head units in most vehicles
luckily oem is putting better head units in vehicles

I’m not sure. I ordered an interface kit with the heat unit that will enable me to use the factory harness without any cutting or splicing, so we will see when I start the project next weekend.
