im interested in buyin a 68 camaro. this guy is saying its a SS396 4spd. how can i tell if its the real mccoy?? it has disk brake in front and a 12 bolt. car vin is 124378L315008

Based on MY interpretation of the numbers you've presented and referring to the two sites mentioned it would appear that it is an original SS 396, but it could also be a 396 engine in a non-SS Camaro then gussied up to look like an SS. Is the engine original to the car?

In 68 there is no way to be sure just by numbers alone, 67 yes but not 68. To be real sure you would need the original protecto plate. Sorry, by the way that muncie is not the original with the 325 casting it should be a 660.
