starter grinding on flexplate teeth!!!???

I have a 1981 F150 with a 351M and automatic tranny. It had teeth ground down on the flexplate gears and was very noisy .A friend put a new flexplate and starter on that goes on a 351W.it starts but has a very loud grinding noise.any help would be appreciated.thanks! :confused:

Either you need to get under the car and measure the distance between the fp gear and starter gear and install the proper shims if needed or have a professional look at it. There's obviously a mismatch there and if not corrected will just ruin another set of parts.
