Starting Problems...

So I was driving out of a parking garage, (I had been driving the car for about 20-30minutes), I get to the stop sign at the exit, and hit the gas to pull out, and the car is dead. I try to start it back up, Wont. Full cranking power, 12.5volts at the battery, bright blue spark, good fuel pressure. I check all the wires, vacum lines... everything is fine. I get the codes from the computer, #12, which means everything is working properly. Gas tank is on E, so I walk down to the gas station buy a gallon, walk back, and put it in. I try to crank it, boom, starts right up, never gets higher than 250-300rpm though, and wont stay running, I try a couple more times, starts right up, wont idle. Last time i tried, started, idled normally, i tapped the gas, dead. So I figure, ok, I didnt put enough gas it, I go back and put 3 more gallons in. Now all it does is crank and crank and crank, bright spark, full power, no fuel pressure. Now im lost... So I turn it off, wait a few seconds, turn the key, I hear the fuel pump relay, but no fuel pump. I tryed about 10 more times, same thing, no fuel pump sound, but the relay is clicking. I check all the fuses, all fine. Im lost as to what the hell happened. From what it seems to me, I was driving around, and all the sudden my fuel pump decides to go bad? Anything im not thinking of? One other thing, is i remember reading something about the oil pressure saftey switch connecting to the fuel pump circut, would that have anything to do with it? I want to get this thing started, asap because of the neighborhood its in. Hopefully it'll be fine for tonight.

if you sucked the tank dry, perhaps something got sucked into the primary pump in the tank?

P.S.

I'd sleep in it... lol :boxing:
Iff your oil level sensor is reacihng low . DANGER. i'm shutting down computer ( spark fuel everything if the readings are incorrect)

i'll start but as soon as i don't read oil pressure i;m shutting down to save big damage,,.

Oil pump ???
has oil pressure when its cranking... and the oil pressure saftey switch is for keeping the fuel pump circut open if the relay goes bad. But as far as I can tell, the relay is fine. Im thinking its more probable for something to have been sucked into the pump.... hopefully it'll unclog itself, enough for me to at least drive it home.

Although, I dont hear the pump sound when I turn the key... would something stuck in the pickup cause the pump to not make a sound?
On a fuel injected vehicle, the surrounding fuel cools the fuel pump.If ran dry and continuosly cranked, you can overheat the fuel pump. You said you can hear the relay but not the fuel pump.Remove the fuel tank cap,put ear to inlet, have someone assist in vehicle by turning ignition to ON,DO NOT crank engine, fuel pump should charge the lines. If you do not hear anything.Go to the engine, find the Schrader Valve for the pressure side, take a small screwdriver and see if you have fuel pressure,DO NOT look directley towards the valve when releasing the pressure. If you have pressure and you bleed it off, once again prime system and check. If you do not have pressure I would suspect the pump.If there is pressure it will be something else.Good luck

You have solved your problem,,..
more and more it sounds like either a plugged or burned up tank pump.

i had this happen to me with my F-250 sucking the front tank dry and getting some tank debris in the pickup, although switching to the rear tank (after i remembered it was there...i had just bought the truck  ) got me and my rather embarrassed tush back to the house...
Fuel filter

Doc here:pimp:

If you ran it dry, check the schrader valve, blow off any air in the lines and try it again.

If that dosn't get you running, Check your fuel filter, it could be clogged by the last of the fuel in the bottom of the tank where all the debris settles...

If you have a Fuel pressure / Volume Gauge Test it..I think it should be around 45 lbs.if it's working right.

If all else fails, Check the FUSE marked fuel pump on the fuse buss.

If that's good, locate the relay, Find the wire on the relay that goes back to the fuel pump, jumper that to 12 volts...

you should hear the pump kick in.

If it does not, go directly to the Tank pump wire, and jumper that, If it runs, you have an open wire, or another circuit in between causing it to shut down (like low oil press sw) If it does Not run, the pump is bad or missing a ground.

Also try resetting the computer to clear any codes...Pull the battery cable (either will do) and touch it to the other for about 10 seconds , then reconnect it.. this will drain power stored in the capacitor's on the memory circuit.

I endeavor not to let My fuel run below 1/4 Tank anymore for just the same reasons you are experiencing!

Hope it helps!

this has happend to me before, it was my fuel pump reset switch. dont know why it flipped, but it did, what kind of car is it??? on my mustang, it was in the hatch:thumbup:

Intermittent Fuel Pressure???

Fuel pump reset switch??
86 camaro TPI.

Todays story:
Every time I check the schrader valve, its something different. When I first got there, it was doing the same thing as it was yesterday, full crank, bright spark on all cylinders, no fuel pressure. So I tighten things up, check all connections i can think of, and check the oil pressure switch. Some things were loose, I tightened them back up. So I try to start it again, and its firing, then dieing, it never fully starts up. I check each injector, all seem good. Check the fuel pressure again, good fuel pressure, gas came pouring out. (I dont have a gauge) Checked all the fuses, all are still good. So I try again... same thing, starts to start, but never stops cranking. So I go back, and check it all again, no fuel pressure.

I forgot to remove the batt. cable... I think I'll try that tomorrow. I was going to jump the wires, but I didnt have anything with me to do it. (wasnt thinking about that when I was getting things to bring). Wish I had two tanks :(...
Im just hoping theres some way I can get it to run long enough to at least drive it home (cant be more than 4-5 miles), so I dont have to have some tow truck driver mess it up again. Also hoping It'll work because to get the pump out, gotta pull suspension, Maybe the rear-end, exhaust and tank to get to it.

Just weird to have the pump cut out like it did...

edit
Even though I get fuel pressure intermittently, I still havent heard the pump start up.

I've had the car towed to my house, and im listening, and trying, and moving, and thinking, and doing everything i can think of, before I drop the entire rear-end and tank to replace the fuel pump.. Although the more I think, the more it seems like its a clog, not a pump failure. Im getting fuel pressure now, but not anywhere near 40psi, like it should be. However I still have yet to hear the pump come on. Spark is still bright and blue. Any ideas? I think something is caught in the fuel pump pickup, but I have no idea how to unclog it without ripping out the entire rear...
