We put the majority of the front speakers in 32-34 coupes in the kick panel. A good 3 1/2" speaker works really well with the space you have up there. If your car has a lower dash built in it, they could also be mounted underneath the lower dash, pointing down.

In these these two cars pictured in the links, you can see speakers located in the kick panels. The light cream colored interior is in a Outlaw 34 Ford Body if I remember correctly, so you shouldn't have a problem mounting speakers there, as long as the fuse box or something isnt mounted behind the kick panel.
