Hi.

I'm in the planning stages of building a stroker bbc chevy. I always thought that the max stroke possible in a standard 454 four bolt was 4.25, with a +0.060 bore that will end up as a 496 cid, But after searching the Internet I have found that there are 4.5 stroke crankshafts available. and as more is better regarding cid. 525 would be better :)

So what is the maximum stroke possible in my block? (the before mentioned 454)

i`m pretty sure a 4.25 is the biggest. if you bore it .100 or .125, can`t remember, you`ll get a 505cid. that`s the biggest with a stock block i think.

4.25 is the biggest you can safely go. You could probably stuff a 4.5 into it, but I think you would be compromising the integrity of the block.

Fairly sure that the practical limit on a production block is a 4.375" stroke.

I'd stick with the 496" and call it good.
