Could be fuel pump.
Maybe sunk float!
Maybe timing!
Could be a lotta things!

What carb?
What cam?
What's idle rpm? In park and in gear?
What's initial timing?

Struggles can you add more definition, the struggle in reverse with stalling seems weird as not much throttle is involved with reverse. The stalls is accelerated too fast sounds like fuel delivery which is a much different situation than moving in reverse.

What is the transmission and how old is everything? Example is miles on the timing set?
