Is there a kit or how easy is it to strap on a supercharger on a pontiac motor. I would like to try this on my old 350 before I strap it on a newly built 400.

I understand the timing and fuel differences and would install an O2 sensor to help tune and keep the motor safe.

Has anyone tried this and what would I need to look for?

Thanks

It really depends. WHat is the original compression? Are the heads going to compliment the supercharger? Does this thing have a forged bottom?

I realize there are kits to "strap" a blower to a motor, but from what (little) experience I have on the subject, with a forced induction motor you don't strap a blower to a motor, you build the correct motor for the blower!

I understand what you are saying. The motor is setup stock. I want to play with low boost #'s for just a test run.

I will build the new motor for the boost.

I need to clarify that I want a centrifugal bolt on as I dont want stock hood clearance issuse. I would even turbo, but have less knowlege of turbos.

I just want to get a working trial setup and plan on blowing UP my tired 350.

What's your stock CR? You're talking very low boost on a stock motor. There are centrifugal kits you can buy for your car. I ran a B&M 250 roots blower on mine some years ago and I had to rebuild the motor for 8#. What year car do you have?

I have a 68. I did a Compression test a couple months back and was in the 150psi range at sea level (all within 10%). I know that dosent tell you the CR but oh well.

Where should I look for a kit?

Ok, Forget about my 350. Where can I get a kit for a properly built pontiac motor?

Where did you get your B&M 250? How did you like it?

I dont believe that a kit exists that utilizes a centrifical underhood blowerfor a pontiac engine. I would start by callin the companies that make the systems like Vortech or Pro Charger they may have built a custom kit at one point or might know what you need to put your own together.

As far as compression ratio on the older 350 pontiacs, I believe they were somewhere in the 9.5 to 1 area.

Either way Im going to guess your looking at 4000$+ for your application. Centrifugal blowers are more for the fuel injected cars, where people have used them with carbs, you need a doghouse and it has its own set of problems probably not worth messing with unless your out to do something different.

For a '68 I'm not sure where to look. They are fairly easy to find for the EFI 3rd and 4th gen F-Bodies. Centrifugal might not be the most ecinomical way to go there. I'll ask around and let you know.

I loved the 250, with a low rise hat like the one Don Garlits's place sells, it will easily fit under a small cowl hood.

Thanks everyone.

Odium, I wanted a centrifugal to be able to keep my stock hood. I am looking for a different setup. I would even consider an EFI conversion with the blower. A small cowl hood dosnt sound too bad. I just want it to look as stock as possible on the outside.

I know that would be a bit more money... Just want to experiment.
