OK - This is a new section for me so here goes. I have a 68 GTO 400 w/ an ST300 2 spd. I bought a TH 350 for $50 yesterday out of another 68. What I am asking is where can I take this new one and have it checked out and maybe installed for the 2 spd in trade - or both the 2 spd and the 350 swapped for a fresh 350? Preferably in the Houston area. Let me hear some good news guys!

The ST300 isn't worth that much. The used TH350 just a tad more.
Aluminum sells for about $20.00 a ton.
The installation shouldn't be that bad until you get into the nitty gritty.
Shift quadrant.
Detent cable and carb mods for the cable.
Filler tube.
Are the bolt patterns the same?

Both are from a GTO w/ a 400 and I am looking for the dual gate shifter. How can I tell if this new TH350 is in good shape internally w/o hooking it up and seeing what happens?

Flip the transmission on it's side and remove the pan and filter.
Look under the filter for any black flaky clutch material.
If it's clean install a new filter, pan gasket, front and rear seals.
