I have a 75 Opel with the TH180 automatic transmission. After it wits for about a week, the trans gushes (pukes) ATF all over the floor. I have been told it is probably the hub seal leaking. As a friend told me the bushing moves forward and blocks the drain hole.

I know I'm probably grasping at straws, but I need to know if there is any way to correct this without removing the transmission and replacing the torque converter?

Nope. It must be removed. Don't rush out and buy a bunch of stuff until you know what the problem is.

Thanks. That's what I figured. I can probably remove the transmission and take it to a local shop for a rebuild. I was hoping not to have to. You know what they say - if you don't ask you don't know for sure. Thanks again.

ask a real trans shop about installing a check valve that will stop the cooler and convertor from draining back to the pan. this seems to fix many TH in old muscle cars that sit alot

I'm assuming the check valve is in the cooler line?

i'm having the same problem, although i don't consider it urgent at this point.
