I went through past posts and read about changing my 9" 3.0 to something like a 3.70 (66 Thunderbird). I know 0 about rearends so my question is... Can the 3rd member? be removed and replaced in one piece, easy swap out?

Yes the center section drops out as a unit. Only problem you might have is incorrect axle splines on new center section.
