In my neck of the woods shop prices, $250-300 labor, plus the cost of the gears and any bearings or shims that might need to be changed.

I do it for $150-175 at home for the locals, shims included(I have plenty), they pay for the gears and bearings, bring beer and pizza :mwink:

Maybe you can find someone working after hours to save you some dough.;)

. Where are you located? May need carrier/posi change, as well...
With the 8.5" 10-bolt, the carrier designations/case breaks are 2.73-up(called 3 series) and 2.56-down(called 2 series), so a new carrier won't be needed in 79CamaroMatt's case, his has the 3 series already.

8.5" 10-bolt does not use a 4 series carrier like some others do, so 4 and 5 series gears fit on the 3 series carrier.;)

Although I avoid using them, you can also buy a ring gear spacer to put 3-4 series gears on a 2 series carrier. Sometimes other oddball rearends will require the spacer, as the limited supply of gear sets wont be easy to find.
