The weekend is finally here! Tonight I moved the wife's car out of her stall in preparation for a weekend of metalworking. I started mocking up the firewall and the toeboard inside with some cardboard. I'll transfer the patterns to posterboard for the final fit when I'm happy with them but I like using cardboard for some things to hold the shape. I'm supposed to pick up the rear end tomorrow and I'll hopefully install that and set the Ply down on the floor so I can check pinion and trans angle in preparation for building the trans & driveshaft tunnel. Anxious to see how the rake turned out from dropping the body 3" in the front.

just barley got started on prepping the door jams for the new rocker
then realized i was about out of mix gas for the mig
so I went to town (about 25 miles one way) to airgas to get some gas, tips, and gloves
And don't forget a welding respirator while you're at it. They make disposables that are about $20.

And don't forget to put that calendar up so you can see it everyday with what you did the day before as further drive to get stuff done. :)

my 5 minutes

I spent my "5 minutes" today, putting my gas bottle back on the welder and hooking it up

then I spent the rest of the day cutting up 6-7 trees that fell around the house in the last snow storm
we got about a p-up load of firewood, plus we burned all the branches and debris, it was (is still) a dang big fire

Today went to get rear end at speed shop & they still can't find the correct rotors for the disc brakes. They ordered another set but it will be mid week before we know if they fit. The rear is all together except for the brakes, BUMMER! :drunk: So when I got back home, seems like I struggled with everything I tried. I can't believe I spent the whole day and didn't get any more done than I did! Got the toeboard made off of the pattern from last night & it fits like a glove! Rolled some sheet steel for the transmission tunnel and arched some for the bell housing cover. Started figuring out the floor braces and made some to fit around the tranny. Made the rear tunnel arch to double as the drive shaft safety strap. Maybe tomorrow finish the trans tunnel framework and set the seats in to figure the cross braces. I put a couple pics in of the front cowl braces. I'm thinking of cleaning up the outside for a smooth firewall and moving them to the inside. I can swap them side for side and they will fit in front of the toeboard behind the firewall???

Got my left fender, hood and grille on! YAH HOO! I had my brother come by and he helped me get the hood on. And I got a bonus, I rid of some boxes of parts (Buick Nailhead) and a rear end that I had out to go to the dump with! He saw it and asked what it was and said he wanted it so not only did I get my hood on I got rid of some junk!

The other photo is of my calendar. :D

I was whooped after working on it all day and so I just stuck the hood on and went inside. But I couldn't do it, I just couldn't leave it like that so I went out to the garage and aligned it to perfection. :D I also sand blasted and painted the battery box and some pieces to the front bumper where the park lamps mount.

Tomorrow, I dig out the top parts. First I'll put the dash together but I am going to dig out the top parts so I can get on that too.

Edit, oh yeah, duh, first I need to get the bumper on. That will happen tomorrow.

By the way, I am freeing up SO MUCH space around my garage and shed. HOLY CRAP I could dance in there now with these parts finally on the car.

Looks like you're feeling better about the car now, or do you still not like it?

Its looking good now.

Nice to get the space back in the garage.

Don't let stuff like that get to you.
Getting frustrated slows you down and causes mistakes.

Move on to another part of the project and before you know it your parts will be in, you'll set them down somewhere as you continue on the other part of the project and a few weeks later you won't be able to find the parts. :D

Its all good no matter what you're working on.

I spent yesterday morning re-doing the lighting in my garage, then I changed the oil and rotated the tires on my daily driver (chevy cruze)

When we bought the house it had a couple cheap-o florescent lights out there, and we didn't have the money for good lights, so I put a few more cheap-o lights out there to get by.......

Well I think I was down to two and half 4 foot fixtures that were working so it was a bit dark out there with the garage door closed.

I bought a couple good t-8 fixtures and got those put up, then pieced a couple more working fixtures out of the others that weren't working between bad ballasts, broken sockets, etc.... I figure I'll buy a good t-8 fixture every month or so and get them all replaced..

Now that I can see in the garage again, I realize that its a mess :) so today will be cleaning day, and maybe I'll have time to do a little work on the doors for the V8 Bug?

No, I am feeling better. It's like my brother said to me yesterday when he helped me put the hood on. He said if I had found my old Gran Sport (I have had this car for 25 years and had a LOT of fun at the drags and such) after selling it years ago I would be so damn happy to see it. But being it has been cluttering up my garage, shed, camp trailer, back yard, attics in both the house and the garage, I hate it. But damn, getting it back together DOES feel good. I can't wait to give it to my son, he is going to be thrilled. The photo below is at the Fremont Drag strip (RIP).
