i have a 91 gmc serria, i replaced the thermostat in it with a 190degree but it seems that it may not be heating up as much as it should be or maybe my guage isnt working right.

just wondering if there is a way you can tell if a thermostat is sticking without a tempature guage.

Verify water temp with a infared thermometer or similure tool. Measure atthe thermostat housing. Temp should be real close to the rated stat temp.

If you don't have a thermo like that, you can take the stat out, push it open a hair and stick a thin something in it; a feeler gauge, a paper clip, a single strand of copper wire... something small.

Suspend it in a pot of water and bring up to temp with a thermometer in it. Note the temperature when the 'stat falls off the thing that's wedged in it.
