so i sanded down the millions of layers of paint and primer just to find a brick of bondo with rust underneath it......no bueno.

the rust isnt like through the metal but the metal is extremely mangled. like running your hand over a grocery bag of golf balls or marbles. im going to go take pics but im wondering, if i need to do an entire quarter panel replacement or just use this....... http://www.trophymustang.com/196768-partial-quarter-panel-p-5880.html

both price-wise and challenge-wise i'd think i'd rather do that patch panel....since thats the only damaged area from what i can see......and i'd like to keep the mavrick welding repairs to a minimum as im just starting to get my confidence up from doing some small patches on other parts of the car.

or do i even need to do that at all? on another forum ive been told since its solid metal, to just fill it.

I've fixed worse than that, alot worse. I say hammer and dolly the thing to as close as you can, then clean it down to nice pristine metal. Then epoxy over it (inside and out). Put some filler over it and sculpt the rest. Prime and paint!

You can do it!

If you decide to repair the panel, and it can be repaired you will need to weld shut the holes where the last guy used a slide hammer. If you bondo over the holes the bondo will absorb water and you will get ruet under the bondo that will cause it to fail.
Take a good hard look at the shape of the wheel well and make sure it is retored to the correct profile before you start any bondo work. The bondo is supposed to smooth over the surface, not build up body lines.
