if you have someone to help you, take #1 spark plug out and put your finger over the plug hole while someone bumps the starter aound easy like, bump, bump, bump until pres. pushes your finger off the hole.when that happens you're nearly at TDC.look at your damper timing marks to align it the rest of the way by hand using what ever socket and ratchet you need.the more plugs you remove the easier it will be.at this point double check yourself to see if you are right by taking distributor cap off and looking to see if the rotor is pointing at # 1 plug tower.trace the plug wire to see if it goes to the same cylinder you are working on.thats TDC.you can also pull the drivers side valve cover off and see if the first two lifters are side by side in the same position which would be on the base of the cam.in other words not one up and one down but the same position.
