Just wanting to make sure I have transmission facts down before I spend a pile of cash on a new transmission....

Looking for a trans for 500+ HP SBC in a 3500 lb car....

powerglides are better suited for cars under 3000 lbs...

TH-350 are good up to 450 HP....

so my choice should be a TH-400...right or ...?

A good TH350 will work behind a whole lot more power than 450. We have a Nova running 9.80's @ 135+ with a relatively mild TH350.

Ive got a 350 in my drag car at 520 hp and it holds up fine. Has a trans brake and a couple after market parts but still basically stock.

But both these cars are less than 3500 pounds I bet ...
I would use a 400 Turbo and be sure ...
When it doubt ... make it stout ...

Street car,or race car,or both. We have run thm 350"s behind big blocks with good results. The 400's,well everybody knows how tough they are.

If this is a race application, check out Jhon Kilgore transmissions. His th400 reduces 30LBs of rotating mass.

KIlgore's trans is intended for class racers (Stock, Super Stock, Comp) not bracket cars. It is an excellent trans, but I doubt he is looking for a $6000 bill.

Nastynova; Use the T350. Use a GOOD valve body (manual, either forward or reverse) and ask the manufacturer about other mods they would recommend. I have several ideas...

trans rear-end question

I have a 36 Chevy panel with a blown 468 which is right at 800 HP....Never weighed it but it's probably less than 3500 lbs.
I run a turbo 400 with a 2800 stall converter, with a Ford 9".
No problems of any type.

I have a fairly healthy 350 with a small blower in my K5 Blazer. The T350 is stock except for a B&M Shift Improver and 2400 RPM converter. It's a 4500lb 4x4 and the tranny has held up just fine for almost a year now.

My 350 worked great untill my tire hooked on a 95 deg day.
Then the stock sprag broke. Get a hardened sprag or better yet a 34 tooth. The 34 tooth is alot more money. Now I have a 400.
