I was wondering if the procedure for adjusting valves is the same with one of these in place.

I dont know the correct terminology for it, pardon my ignorance. However was wondering if you adjust the valves with this still in place or it needs to be removed?

Technically it's the same but because of tolerances in stud location the lash changes on some of the valves when you tighten the locking bolts on the stud girdle.

What I do is a rough lash adjustment without the girdle installed or left completely loose. Then with the girdle installed and completely tightened I check the lash at each valve. Some will change at this point either looser or tighter.

Then you have to loosen up the girdle one stud at a time on the ones that are off to make the adjustment. Tighten and re-check lash.

Also when you install the girdle make sure it doesn't sit so low that it contacts the top of the rocker at any point during the cycle.

That is a Rocker Arm Stud Girdle. You adjust your rocker arms first, then install the stud girdle.

So removing it, set lash, install it and re check lash, then make any adjustments from there.

I check the lash first,then recheck lash after I remove or loosen stud girdle. do some math and some guessing then reinstall/tighten girdle

For valve adjustment start with removing valve covers, also remove the spark plugs in order
to turn over engine. Than loose the entire rocker arm adjustment nuts. Now adjust valve
with long handled ratchet.
