vinyl top on a cadillac?

As you may guess from my name..im dealing with a 1970 Cadillac coupe de Ville. When i got this thing the vinyl top had been ripped off but the borders of the top (if you know what im talking about) are still there.(it looks like trim but it holds the vinyl on i guess?) Im not sure how these are held on. If it is possable to remove this and get a relatively smooth finish out of it id like to do that If someone knows...could you please give me advice on removing this so i can finish my prep work and get this thing painted. Thanx.

1970cdv look down a bit to a post called "vinyl tops" it should help you out a bit, if you have anymore questions just let me know.

your right...the vinyl trim came right off and the posts that hold em on twis off with a real smooth finish...a little filler some sanding and primer and its like it was never there.
