The worst thing about vinyl tops, especially padded ones, is that when an edge seal fails or seam splits or cracks water is allowed to go beneath the vinyl and soak the padding or just collect at the lowest edges. It then begins the rusting process and causes those unsightly puckers and bubbles in the vinyl covering. When the cover is removed you may find pristine sheet metal needing only cleaning and adhesive removal before primer and paint....OR you may find large holes and a nightmare of expensive and tedious bodywork, welding, and so on.
Either way it's pretty much a pocketknife and cut and rip kind of removal. The worst places for rust are generally in the rear quarters and around and under the backglass opening.
