I have a 97 ford thunderbird with a 4.6 in it and a posi rearend, what is available for performance parts that I could get for this car. What should I do and what should I not do. This car is in awesome shape, it came from texas before I got it so it has never seen a winter and there is no rust on it whatsoever. If I can I'll try to post a pic of it on here.

At the newstand you should be able to pick up a copy of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords -- every big Ford aftermarket vendor advertises in there and you will get all kinds of ideas just reading the ads.

What you should do? You have all kinds of choices, but if it was mine, being in pretty good shape, I'd leave the body and interior alone and just do some mild performance stuff.

Just ship it back to Texas for me--I have already worn out a 94 & 97.--But they are still driven daily--Favorite driver since 94.

First things first, I'd upgrade the exhaust (or is it a true dual?) (BMM)

not a lot you can do with this that I can see--exhaust occupying the same spot as the driveshaft. Not a true dual--2 cats-1 muffler-4 oxygen sensors.

Got 180k on the 97--mostly trouble free--Mass Air Flow Sensor failed 2x 4.6l
almost 200k on the 94/3.8.

If you haven't found it yet go over to TCCoA It's a decent source of Info. Anything you can do to a Mustang you can do to the Thunderbird. It just takes more creativity due to the tighter engine bay.

You can contact Eddie at www.RacerWalsh.com You can slap a supercharger on that or a turbo. Pretty much same as mustang 4.6.

Go to the site he suggested. (it looks like he has a manual '95 SC) I spent the last 3 years hanging out there, and I thought the knowledge base was amazing. (I had a black 97, hence my username here) Usually, the first thing people there would suggest is to upgrade the transmission.(but not with an aftermarket shift kit) Once there, do a search for "j mod" or some variation of that. It's like a shift kit, but better for the transmission.

Unless he is doing some major modding, going to a true dual won't do him much. Some people have reported a loss in Torque when going to true dual because of the loss of back pressure.

I did mine on my 97 Cougar XR7 (sister car to the T-Bird) because I needed a new exhaust and I wanted the sound.

Like it was said, one of the first things you should do is go to TCCOA and then read the tech articles and search the board. There are many varrying views there, but tons of valuable information.

Do the tranny upgrade. If you want to go dramatic they will tell you to go with a PI Engine.

thanks for the tips i'll have to check out them sites. I know I do want to put an exhaust on it but i'm not sure what i want for one. I was thinking about just throwing a couple of 40's flowmasters at it but i'm not sure. The car performs pretty well as it is right now but thas not ever good enough. If I stop in the middle of the road and put it to the floor the whole car comes sideways in the road and it tachs up to just about the redline, then when it shifts it catches traction every time and kinda throws me back into the seat. Probably not the best thing for the car but it sure is fun.

Both Dynomax and Flow Master make cat-back kits for the Thunderbird. The most restrictive part of the exhaust is the third cat. The pipe size in that thing is tiny.

look through some of sites posted and all the mustang sites and this one (http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ar/eb40228.htm), 99 up 4.6 heads will bring it alive, your bigest preformance mod would be 99 up 4.6 heads ! ask at mustang boards about head swaps, they make MLM eliminator kits to elimate a set of 02 sensors to help with exhaust setup, and then you can run 1 set of cats or no cats. long tube headers too, gears, I know some mustangs running 373s with a auto or 411s cause of OD tranny, most 411s are 5 speeds, upgrade with new cams, or 99 up heads & a super charger of a 4.6 Cobra or a Lighting P/U.

I own a 25kmi 5 speed 00 Mustang GT Spring Feature 39,00 made (http://www.yellowmustangregistry.com/ProductionMain.htm), I was gona mod it up but its a garage queen, I can't bring my self to do anything to it yet.
