i was going to paint it canary yellow with 2 black racing stripes, but i thought that silver with 2 black racing stripes would look coll too. I want racing stripes, but I just don't know what color combo I should do. for the people that don't know what they look like, they almost look like the mid 60's nova's, chevy 2's and other square body cars.

either sound like nice combos and I am assuming it is the 2 door body and not the 4 door.
I saw a pic of a 69 done in pearl white and candy red stripes that looked real nice and another one done in a gold metalflake forest green with silver stripes.

i would keep in a more vintage look, perhaps a Hurst SC rambler copy with 1968 racing decals and so on? i think you see every tom, dick and harry painting racing stripes now a days, i think they belong on ac cobras, shelby mustangs, and dodge vipers. but if you decide to do the stripes, i would keep them less loud than yellow and black. something like the green and silver, or metallic black and silver should give it a look that doesnt just scream loud paint put also some style..

just my 2 cents

If you want a paint job where the stripes blend with the overall theme instead of stand out. Try something like black cherry paint with candy apple red stripes. A friend did this on his Chevelle back in the 70's and it is still one of my favorite paint jobs ever!

yeah, I just bought another rambler american today, it's a 67(almost identical) but in a hundred times better condition. I don't want to keep it vintage because I'm building up a ford 302 and dropping it in with a c-6 tranny behind it, hopefully I'll get a ford 9" rearend, but I'll probably settle for something not quite as good. My dad thinks I'll get somewhere around a 300 horse (pretty good for my first car). I'm doing the best that I can on my part time burger king budget. It's hard to go to school, work, rebuild a car and put up with all the crap a 17 year old has to. Anyways, being that I'm putting in the 302, vintage is out of the question. i want something that stands out and will definately scare all the little rice burners away. I'm staying away from all black because you need basiclly a perfect body because gloss blass shows damage bad. If you know somebody who needs rambler parts, please talk to me as I'm parting out my 68 american and have leads to find many other parts. I'm in albany oregon. thanx for the suggestions, keep them coming.

I LIKE T, the tri color rebel paint scheme, then add very dark window tint and perhaps some polished weld wheels (perhaps you can find them used) and the car will rock..

the s/c rambler had a red white and blue paint scheme and I didn't care for it much. I'm not sure why, probably because it just makes it look stock or something, i don't know. i'm leaning towards somethin that will definately stand out. i also want something that nobody else has. that's one reason i'm making a rambler in to a hot rod because you don't see one every day. otherwise i'd be rebuilding a nova or chevelle.
