1979 Firebird, what engine should i use if i want 400 to 500 horsepower, and wut would be a good tranny to go with it.

I ran a 455 Buick in my '73, easy 500 horse and streetable too. 455 Pontiac would do the same thing, or a BB chevy. 500 horse out of a smallblock and streetable don't always mix (there are exceptions), so I would pick a 455 Buick or Pontiac or a BB chevy.

Transmission? I would go with a TH-400.
