Getting ready to paint a car with plum crazy purple metallic and I'm going to spray it with epoxy before painting and was wondering what the best color of epoxy will hide best under purple. I'm just a bit nervous about tiger striping from a metallic, not particularly good at that yet. Will gray be all right or could I tint the epoxy?

I shot a Challenger a few months ago. The base was SW in a Ford Purple that was supposed to be close to the color you are using. The car was primed with SPI gray epoxy. The base covered it in 3 coats with no problem.

I don't know about tinting the epoxy, but I doubt it. You need to check with the manufacturer for that.

if youre using PPG;s DPLF series epoxy then you can tint it pretty much any color.

I would think a medium to dark grey, but since plum isn't a real dark purple is it?, I'll guess medium. Do you know what paint you will be using? Have the place that mixes up your paint look at the mixing formula and see if they suggest a certain shade, and try to stay close to it.

I'm planning on using PPG's deltron for paint. I was thinking of using the cheaper line but heard stories that it doesn't cover well. Anyone know anything about that?
