I want to upgrade my vortecs with beehives. Cam is 212/218 @ 50, 1.6 rockers, approximately .503" valve lift, 5200-5500 rpm max. Its a boat engine that will spend a lot of time at 5000-5200.

130# on the seat too much? Not enough?

Beehives # 26915 are designed for totally stock Vortecs and will allow you .550 lift with no contact.

They spec at 105 @ 1.800 inches, and 293 @ 1.2 inches. Installed height of 1.750 puts them right around 130 on the seat, exactly what is good for the lift and duration that you have.

There are of course, heavier beehives available which might stress the press in rocker studs. General rule is 300# over the nose maximum.

There's two things to consider. What is the installed height and what is the diameter of the spring pocket?

If the installed height is 1.75 then the springs xntrik specs out are right. If the installed height is 1.80 or a little higher then Comp number 26918 will give you the correct pressure or you could shim to get 1.75 and use the 26915's.

These two numbers are if the spring seat is stock diameter. If the spring seats have been enlarged to accept a 1 7/16 spring then CC# 26986 would be the right choice.

In any case the cam you chose is looking for 130# on the seat and about 290# over the nose.
