Ok my roomates and I are debating the exsistance of a roots type blower that runs blow thru carbs underneith of it insted of the typical set up where you have blower carbs on top of it. I dont think they make that set up and i cant imagine it being all that efficent if they do. It just seems like haveing to pressurise that much area would cause turbulance and it would put a load on the carbs. One guy here said they make them in a box under the super charger similer to that of a centrifugal super but that the top is the roots blower. In that the forced air would flow all around and im thinking would cause the turbulance i mentioned before. Just my .02 though. figured id ask the pros. has any one seen a roots that blows thru the carbs? thanks for your help.

Not to say that it couldn't be done but it would be kind of funny looking to have the supercharger on top of the carbs.
There are some phony blower setups that have the carb inside and old case but it isn't functional without the rotors in there. It's just for the look.
A direct drive roots supercharger like the one on this car would probably be more efficient with a blow through setup rather than hauling the mixture over such a long distance in a draw through configuration but the rotors wouldn't last very long without the fuel for a little lubrication.

To answer your question, I have not ever seen or heard of a blow through configuration with a roots type supercharger on top of the carbs.

The first thing I thought of when I read this post was the old Dean Moon, Potvin setup or a variation of it. The blower rotors do not need librication as they don't actually wear against each other. Other than the teflon tip models. The lube is in the ends (bearing supports). They (GMC style) last for many thousands of miles on the original "road oilers" that they came off.
No way you could put carbs under a roots blower and have it work. There are several issues, the blower would have to be REAL tall in order to have room for the rotors, next issue is how would you run the throttle linkage and keep the "blower case" sealed? Not to mention all the heat. How would you tune the carbs? You would have to be real small and fast to run between the rotors with your jets and screwdrivers while the engine is running, LOL.
It would take so much work to try to make a sutup like that it doesn't make sense.
The only way I could see trying to make it work would be to basically use a dual air cleaner aluminum base and mount the blower on top of the carbs (like a scoop). This would still pose a very large problem of trying to figure out how to secure the blower (2, 1/4"-20 studs just wouldn't cut it). Not to mention the hot air blowing through the carb and the turbulance.
So in short I am willing to stick my neck out on a limb and say your roomies are WAY wrong. As mentioned above there is a "dummy" blower that houses the carb under it but, it is not a functional blower, there are no rotors, etc...
