I am considering building a street driven 67 Nova with a Shafiroff 540 or 598. My question is what will a 12 bolt need to handle up to say 700-800 hp. Can a posi handle that or will I need to run a spool etc. Currently I am running a 10 bolt with a spool, strange axles and just shy of 500 hp 408 small block with a powerglide. The spool has been fine other than dragging the tires around corners. I would prefer to keep my car all GM but am not against using a Dana or 9inch.
Thanks,
Rick

It's not really how much H Power will it take but how much Traction. If the car spins the tires the twelve bolt will last.

In my experiance tho. If you have a car that hooks. That twelve bolt will take a LOT of hard earned cash to get it to take the same punishment a basically stock 9" will endure. Been There!

I am running a 12 bolt in my Biscayne with 4.56 gears and a Moroso Brute Strength carrier. The engine I'm running dynoed at 608@7200, but since it is a 433, the torque isn't as high as you'll see in a larger inch engine. I haven't used the NOS Big Shot system yet, so we'll see how much it can handle. So far there have been no problems. It's backed by a turbo 400, but that is being changed out this winter to a manual trans. The tires are Hoosier Quick Time 295's. I hope this helps. :D
