The block serves many engine combinations the kicker is the suffix code that makes it a Z/28 block, 1967 is "MO" and 1968-69 is "DZ". Also the heads are on a number of engines, as well as the intake. Your best bet is to pick up the book "How To Hotrod Small Block Chevys" by HP Books. It has an extensive listing of all of Chevys hi performance small block engines in the back. List parts numbers for everything down to gasket sets.

Good luck running down genuine 67-69 Z/28 engine parts, they are extremely expensive and fraud abounds. I saw an air pump go for $300+ on Ebay :pain: .

You will NEVER .. :( have ( LIKE ABOVE :D ) a correct, matching number 69 Z/28 Camaro with the correct 302 - 290 HP DZ engine if you do not have the original ( from the factory ) engine block. Some folks do restamp the blocks but I consider that fraud.

In addition to having all the right casting numbers ... you need the correct date codes also. You cannot have a February built car with a March/April/May cast block in the car without someone smelling a LIE . I was lucky enough to have a few real Z's ... back in the 60's and 70's.

A 69 Z-28 is one of the most faked, lied about and fraud ridden cars of the last 50 years. I suggest you just build a NICE SBC ( or buy a ZZ$ crate engine ) and just enjoy the car.

Just my nickel ...

I have the correct number block , heads and manifold and transmission but that is all. The car has 7,000 miles on it and been inside a heated building for the last 37 years. Its missing pulleys and all the other small stuff. The owner won the lottery after he tore it apart, lost interest and a lot of parts over the years. He used it as a show car and then spun a bearing. He is a very rich man still. The car doesn't have one speck of rust on it anywhere, trunk , quarters and all original paint and interior. This will be the finest numbers matching car in the world when I'm done, cost will not be a problem. I will post pictures as we go the frame is off, to get painted today. I will keep the same paint from 1969 on the exterior.
Thanks for the help, I have also contacted Fraser Dante and MacNeish.

I got the car, this is crazy. I still can't beleive my eyes and neither can the guys in the shop where its being put back together in Dublin Ohio. No rust and now we are looking thru the boxs of parts to see what i got . We found 2 numbers matching alternators a smog pump complete, a water pump and another BIG box full of delco dist. parts still in the box's. No carb it says I need a 4053 not sure of the date yet. Water pump has a july and another water pump says jan. They say not all dates match on all cars, but are with in 2 months or have to be within 2 months is this true???????? Getting the dates off the motor tommorrow. We checked casting numbers and drive train 3956618 block 3927186 heads 3932472 manifold transmission numbers match the numbers on the dash last 5 or 6. yh ralleys w/ spare wooden looking steering wheel, 2 stock shifters w/ rubber boots, guages on consol, am / fm..going to look under seats for build sheets black interior like new and original 79 79 ralley green white stripes. This is going to cost me a lot to put back together with paying for 2- kids in college 65,000 a year. I'll get ya pictures ,,can't stop seeing what I got and what I need first.

Real z28

I've sit here as long as I can.Do you think you could replace your z28 for $25,000 if it was lost in a fire,or if it was stolen? When my lowly Chevy II L79 SS was under construction my insurance company insured mine for $45,000 until the project was complete.Hey, the insurance companies know what a car like yours is worth. You don't want to under insure your car.I have a#3815822 crankshaft,#3892657 block(1967 year model only, plus the only block used to build the 67 year model 302 engine)a pair of#3890462 heads,a #3791021 flywheel #3917610 intake with a GM cast iron water neck, oil filler tube & cap, water pump #3859326 and a set of standard 69 DZ pistons, and GM rods. All the right parts for a 302 c.i. motor, but it's not #'s matching,no car. Know anyone wanting to build a 1967 z28 engine,?All of us want pics, see how easy that is ? :D
