I was hoping you guys could help me with a few pointers. This is my first 400sbc build and I am still uncertain about a few things. First off, I have a small base hydraulic flat camshaft. Do I have to worry about the 5.7 rods clearing??? I have it installed and the engine rolls over clean and free. Another thing is squish??? I have a set of trickflow (aluminum)195cc,72cc. I used a standard fel-pro 400cid gasket. I haven't 0 decked the block(not sure if it was before). I have kb flattops -5cc,with scat 400 crank and 5.7 rods. Dose that ruin my squish???? Thanks for your time,hope I gave enough info.

need to have steam holes put into the heads.

if you use a small base circle cam then you don't need to clearance the rods.

compression will be around 10.25:1cr. you should use a cam with at least 270 degrees of advertise duration with those heads.

engine should run just fine.

I did drill the steam holes, and the cam is a lunati (lun-60103). I should still be good with 93 octane yeah?

268/276 is the advertised, that's should put me in the ballpark right?
