I've been lookin over the last year for either a 64 Impala,66/67 Chevelle,or,a 64/66 Chevy truck body just to build for toy/cruiser & maybe occasional 1/4 mile car. Most of the prospects seem to either need to much work,or,they are outta my price range.I came across this Impala tho & it seems to fall rite in between. Not too excessively high & is reasonably sound body wise.Currently equipped w/ 283 & PG trans.2 bbl carb engine. Not sure if original or not & for my purposes,I really don't care. The 64 Impala w/ a 400 HP 409 & 4 speed weighed in @ approx 3650 lb & would pull the 1/4 mile in about 14.5 seconds @ 98 mph.Not sure what gearing was used.If I were to build a similar rated 355,or,383,I should get about the same results.Correct? On a side note, just outta curiosity, how much HP/Torque would a fella need to slightly seperate @ least 1 front tire from the pavement on said car???LOL.:pimp::pimp:

The interior is pretty ruff, but,it's all there.I hope it is a 327.LOL.He is selling for someone else,so,he doesn't have a lot of solid info on it,but, for the price,I don't think I can go wrong. It's 150 miles from me,so,I plan on goin up to look @ it 1 day this week.He said it has been sittin under an open shed for 5,or,6 yrs.He said he has cranked it up using a gas can becuz the tank is full of crud.

He has all the missing trim & interior parts. It needs front floor pans.Never done that befor but it doesn't look too hard to do.I found a set 18 guage for $125.I love yours & the way yours sets. That is the look I'm shootin for.It has P/S & P/B already.I'll clean it up & prolly do a quik n dirty flat black on it til I get it mechanically sound & then I'd love to do it with original Azure/Aqua Blue.

I saw a complete SS interior trim pkg on EBay for like $1800.It included door panels, dash pad, seat covers, etc.I know I'd have to find bucket seats & a console.I'm really anxious to go see it.I can tell a lot more about it then.1 of my biggest concerns is prolly the wiring.Me & wiring don't get along too well.LOL.

Mine will probably stay the way it is for a year or two before I start doing any body work. I like the look of the Aqua blue but I haven't seen one in person yet. It looked good on the Fast and Loud Impala they did.

A lot of people seem to like the paint the way it is so I don't feel so bad about leaving it for now. I'll probably do some more suspension work and disc brake upgrade. No need to put a second mortgage on the house to get it done.

If you are looking for any parts Classic Industries has about anything you could ever want. I've got a couple of their "wish" catalogs that they send out for free. Probably about 2" thick. I could go broke just flipping through that thing. :pimp:

I'll have to get a catalog. As far as paint,if this car looked as good as yours,i'd leave it for now as well.I think it looks cool, but,it appears someone has already shot some primer or somethin on this one to screw it up.Grill & bumpers look to be in decent shape.Got 1,000 ideas runnin thru my head about it.LOL.Hope it turns out to be as good as it appears to be.I'll take my trailer when I go look @ it,but, maybe drop it off befor I get there. If I pull in with it,he'll be less likely to wanna work with me.LOL.

I look at things differently than most folks. I would pull up there with the trailer, my wife, my best friend and an envelope full of 100 dollar bills that I would flash and tell the seller that I was going home with his '64 or another '64 that I looked at. I'd tell him to get his heart in the right place and let's do business.

a 283 has a 1 piece balancer(no rubber and outer ring).
to get the front wheel up even a little, you will need low 12 second engine with a big first gear and slicks.
or what we did in high school with a friends 66 chevyII,we took out the front shocks and bounced it by getting on and off the throttle a few times(had a 250/3 in the tree)It was a salmon colour 2 door post,we called it pink as the guy that owned it was a "ginger" Limey,,,,

My very 1st vehicle was a 66 Chevy truck w/ a 250/3sp column shift that my Grandfather bought brand new in 66.I burned alotta 283's,327's,& even a few 350's with that old truck.Had a set of 700-15 Grip Spur Mud grips in the rear.I ran a split manifold w/ headers & a 550 Holley 2 bbl.Twisted a couple of driveshafts. Those GripSpurs would take a bite, but, you couldn't hear the radio becuz of the roaring.LOL.

Here, I'll suggest the first purchase for it.....
Procomp Aluminum Heads Complete BBC For Sale

Are you going to put the car on a rotisserie? I would. And I'd remove everything that I could that didn't contribute to runnin' down the road. All the stuff that I left on the car would be full of holes from holesaws and the windows would be Lexan. Any body parts that are available in fiberglass would find a new home on her. I'd be shootin' for 2500 lbs and a 505 BBC runnin' through a Richmond 5-speed and 4.10 cogs. Should be more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Shop around and see if you can find a 427 tall deck block.

Absolutely!!! The frontend on the old Comet was so bad & w/ the air shocks in the rear it was kinda hard to tell the difference. LOL. When you're 17, the "COOL" factor far outweighed the ride quality or lack thereof.
At 17, (1959), I was driving a '47 Dodge Moredoor sedan. The power transfer was fluid drive, with a torque converter between the 6-banger flathead motor and the 3-speed manual transmission. I could get going down the street in second gear, about 30 miles per hour and get on and off the loud pedal and get the whole shebang bouncing up and down going down the street. What a hoot! I'd usually have a car full of buddies and we'd be all laughin' and hollerin'. Too cool.

As a side note, none of us knew anything at all about illegal drugs. They had not made it to our school yet at that time. Not even weed. Wow, life without drugs. What a concept!

IDK why, but, the 64 full size cars have alwayz been 1 of my favorites. My Tomboy aunt had 1 when I wuz a kid.409/4 spd.The shifter stuck up higher than the dash.I always thought it wuz so cool. Her brother,"my uncle",had a 66 BelAir w/ 327/4spd.It just ate him up cuz she could walk a dog on him.He borrowed her 64 1 nite & ended up wrapped around a tree.He thought after that that he now ruled the roost until she bought a brand new 67 w/396/4spd.Purple w/ white vinyl top, white interior,& that same tall shifter with a wood grain pistol grip shift handle.

If this comes to be,i'm not wanting to do a complete original restore.I want it pretty much a solid clean body & suspension.Thinking maybe I'll build a good solid 375 HP or so engine w/ maybe a 125 shot for the times I wanna show off a lil bit.I'm thinkin 4 spd auto,or 5 spd manual,so I can get some decent gearing, but, still cruise w/o winding it to the moon. 90% usage will be street cruiser.
