where do i hook these wires up? ive got a black one coming from under the dist, one coming off the condensor, and ive also got a ballast resistor wire, were do they go on the coil ? thanks

are you using a points distributor? if so, a 12v lead goes from the starter solonoid, to the + side of the coil for bypass ( cranking ), and also, a wire from the ballast resistor/ resistor wire ( whichever you have, can't have both ) to the + side of the coil.
right, wire coming out of distributor is the only 1 to go to the - side of the coil. remove condensor, see if you got spark, if you do, condensor is bad ( most likely, they don't last if they sit ). you can test fire the motor like that if you want, it'll just be a little hard on the points.
so the wire coming from the condensor goes to the + side of the coil? IVe got 3 wires of concern here.
1. black wire exiting from under the distributer.
2. black wire exiting the condensor. (the small little cylinder double a battery looking thing)
and a ballast wire wrapped in white paper type wrapping.
where do these go?
The - Side of the coil gets the wire going to the Distributer only (unless you have a Tach, then the Tach pickup goes here as well..)
The + side of the coil gets the wire coming from the solenoid "R" or "I" terminal . this is secondary Ignition hot ONLY in Crank or start mode..to verify, put a meter on the wires, the wire that has power only when someone "taps crank or start" is the one your looking for. This wire ALONG with one wire from the ballast resistor will go to the coil + terminal.
The other wire, you can verify by simply turning the key on..it should have power on it and go off with the key..This wire goes to the other side of the ballast resistor..
The "round" item is a noise suppressor..It is a Non polarity type of electrolytic capacitor..good up to about 450 WVDC, it's sole function is RF suppression so we can all hear the radio..you can leave it off until you verify it runs then hook it back up..they rarely go bad..
