have you checked the fluid level?

 

if the fluid level is good .. sounds like the filter is clogging up and the trans stops operating.

perhaps dropping the pan and opening the filter for a look see is in order?

 

It even lost park!

I have already opened it up. The filter looked alright and the fluid was a little dark but not bad, I think.

no sure on what to look for. The trans has always been this mistery black hole of the unknown for me.

loss of park also??? sounds like an internal linkage issue.

The mechanic that rebuilt last year will be rebuilding it again for free. I will let you all know what the problem is. Thanks for trying to help.

Sounds like the shift linkage or the bracket that connect to the shift shaft is loose.

Park is a mechanical lock, not hydraulic.

 

Transfer Case??

Would it be possible that the transfer case has something wrong with it??

I was draining the fluid in the transfer case and found two white plastic things in the bottom, plus there was some blue thing in there.

My thought is that if there is no pressure coming from the rear tires that the transmission would just be spinning, thus the grinding when I try to put it in park.

If Yes, is it hard to rebuild a transfer case?

yes , if the transfer case is bad or slips into neutral , that will cause a "no movement' situation from the transmission

 

Well that's an important detail. Little bits of broken things in the bottom of the case is never a good sign. But the blue and white description is interesting, most of the parts that would cause it to fail completely are metallic not plastic.

Also is rebuilding the Transfer case very difficult? it is a 208
