700r4 shift issue

I have an 84 chevy c20 with a 350 and a 700r4 tranny in it. It came stock with a quadrajet carb. I just put an Edelbrock carb on it and now it wont shift out of first gear. I started having this issue before I swapped carbs. It wouldn't shift until about 30 mph which was about 3500 rpm. Now that I have swapped carbs it wont shift at all. Any Ideas?

You may have other transmission issues since you stated this was going on before you swapped carbs. It is imperative that you have the proper TV cable geometry for the 700R4 to operate properly. The Edelbrock carb must have the right TV bracketry.

Prolonged driving with an improperly configured TV cable can kill your transmission.

will it hurt to have it adjusted tighter than from factory? i remember reading on here that someone said they ran the cable tight as possible?
A click or 2 in either direction can be used to fine tune shift points. If you have it too tight the trans may not shift or shift at very high rpm. Tighter increases pressure, loose lowers pressure=not good. Here's a good tutorial on setting the TV cable & what is actually does.Part I, II & III.>>>>>

Thanks for the advice. This is the first swap I have done with the 700r4. I knew I was forgetting something. Still has the issue of shifting late so that is something else I have to figure out.
thanks again
