I am tired of these Crapsman jacks that I have and want to buy a good jack. I am willing to spend a few hundred dollars to get one so let me know what you are using and where I can find one. It's uses are hobby inspired and and will be lifting cars like a convertible bug, 50 Chevy, 87 Corvette, 02 Dodge Ram. I would be willing to give up the ability to lift the truck because I would like something low profile to get under the Vette.
Thanks.

I walked in a napa store one day, and this guy that runs a junkyard was buying a 2 1/2 or 2 1/4 ton jack. When he left I asked the napa guy why he didn't buy a higher rated jack, he looked at me and says that guy knows what he's doing.

I bought one myself, then two years later bought another one just like the first one, I don't have a lift so I use about four floor jacks, but these napa jacks, they are really stout and user friendly, and they don't break.

I'll go out to the garage and get some numbers in case anbody is interested.

I was wrong there 2 ton, can't read all of the paper tag anymore, but there is a # 241406 if that means anything.

I'm thinking around $300, but if I can't remember the tonnage, then I'm probably off on the price.

I put a level across the lowest part, and its 4''.

I type with two fingers, otherwise I would redo this.

Walker  Like 61 I have some old Walker jacks That I have used and abused over the years. One I had was bought new in 1968(not by me :) ) and it still works flawlessly today and another one I have is a 2 ton that is used outside and is left in the weather sometimes but it too works exceptionally well. Matt is right, just about anything made by OTC is top of the line but these Walkers are just about indestructible.

Napa, if they don't have them they can get them.
Regardless of how attractive they are, don't buy one of the aluminum jacks unless it is made by Walker, OTC or (senior moment, it'll come to me). Took a while, but the other is Hein Warner. These are high quality steel jacks with a low profile and very good reach.
Can't say I've ever had a walker overhauled. Company had one but it got ran over by a d-8 :). That oughtto tell you something, it was still repairable.

That might be what I have, I will go out and look in the garage, I have the papers on them, about a half hour, the bride has supper on.

Anyway, I don't know what you're going to get, but I'll find the papers, I know I have them.

Sounds good mike, if you think about it, ask them about the part number I gave you, it came right off the napa brochure 91-642 series c, one of my jacks is blue and the other one is brownish, pin these home boys down on what you're getting and why there different numbers.

I can tell you if its the same jack, you will really like it. Then again the different number weighs the same, and might be a better jack then mine, newer technology. :)

I just called you Mike from another forum I was on, old age senility, anyway you said $189, I know I paid a lot more then that, plus when I bought them, auto zone hadn't moved into town yet, and they just hammered us on prices, and we had a discount at napa.

When the zone moved in, napa cut there prices in half, and they were still higher, wasn't that much internet shopping back then like it is now.

I will buy stuff at napa, but I've still got the ears back about how much they used to charge us for anything.

NAPA Lifting Equipment (NLE) sell two different series of jacks. (In Canada, anyway.)
The blue ones are the "professional series" and the red ones are for DIY's.

Wherever you buy your jacks, ask about servicability. Some of the cheaper ones are throw-aways when they go bad.

Another REALLY nice feature, one worth paying extra for (IMHO) is the "up in one stroke" two-stage hydraulic. They pump up real quick until they contact the frame and start bearing weight.OTC 1526

You'll quickly appreciate this when you're trying to jack up the rear end from the center. The jack is 75% under the car, with about a foot of handle sticking out ... and you have about 6" of "swing" on the handle. You're 49 years old, overweight, and on your knees ... need I say more? :mwink:

Good stuff gmc, but I'm 65 years old, drink a little beer, chew a little grizzly, but I won't put a lift in.

Bending over and getting under these cars is what keeps me alive.

When a guy doesn't have a lift, he understands the floor jack business, anyway kind of.

I have a cheaper 5 ton real skinny camper type jack, with a handle plus the foot pump, that baby will reach right under there, but the napa jacks are so much easier to get around and pump quicker.

But I like your theory, I've got the stomach.

I'll have to admit it, I have an aluminum jack from Harbor Freight. I think I paid like $129 for it. It has been a very good jack. It will lift my 34 and my truck with little effort. The wife's Tahoe requires a little more effort but it handles it well. It is light enough for me to toss it into the back of my truck. I have been using it for going on two years now without any problems.

I never get under anything without first placing jack stands.
