Hello.
Just bought me a 1956 354 Hemi. It was charged up with an old generator, but Im going to use an alternator. The car Im currently in already has an alternator and the charging system, but its a Chevrolet unit. Can I simply fab a bracket and mount it up to the new motor? Its not the motor that would matter, but just the fact the alt is charging the system right? Im not real good on these, so any help is appreciated. HemmiGremmi

If the GM alternator has an internal regulator you can use it. You will have to disconnect the wires from your old voltage regulator. The simplest way is just to purchase a one wire alternator, or you could take the GM alternator to a starter and alternator rebuilding shop and have the GM unit converted to a one wire alternator. Presto wiring problems solved. Just run one wire from alternator to pos battery post and disconnect the wires from your old voltage regulator and tape them up individually. Fab a bracket and put a belt on it.
