I know its long but if your interested in camaros it kinda cool and its a story about the people we all hate

I was going to buy a 69 Z28 camaro nice car eh.. Anyway
I saw it at a swap meet it was in good condition a few chips here and there nothing serious. It was almost stock except for the engine which was a 350 but that wasnt a problem because I already have a 302. So i asked the guy for the price and he said 14.5k now any respectful camaro owner or guru would no this is an istant buy at first thought but I had a funny feeling so I checked it out. Everything was stock and the owner said it was all stock and he seemed honest. Unfotunatly looks arnt everything. This is where i need your help I noticed that it had a 10 bolt rear end and i was almost positive it was 12 but i bypassed it for awhile. Anyway the I figure i'll go home think about it then come back tommorow. I go home and I totally forgot to check if it had rear disc braked which was a mistake. I caught one flaw in the scam however it had a automatic transmission which didnt come with the orginal 69 Z28's I think. So anyway I got one day left I need to no three things?

1. If the 69 Z28 came with a automatic transmission
2. If it was a 12 bolt rear end
3. Should I buy it

The only bad part about this story is the guy was selling it off as an orginal

No Z28s were ever automatics. Clones are cool but dont pay Z28 prices for a clone car. Paint jobs arnt cheap either. Youd probably be better off going after a different car if your after a true Z28.

If this is you first early Camaro, do some research. Look at the frames, front and rear wind screen rot, rear quarters, trunks... There will be better deals coming your way.

But who am I to say, I recently had a 7 year love afair with my Z28 clone 68' Camaro. Build what you want, love what you build.

Have fun.

:spank:

Clone is a polite way of saying FAKE................

If the car looks real but the owner says it is not a original Z28.....then its a clone

If the car is being passed off as a original Z28 and it is not...........then it is a FAKE.

69 Z28's

1) no automatics
2) no 10 bolts
3) no A/C
4) had DZ stamped on the engine pad.
5) the heater water outlets were just above the valve cover............Big Block Camaros make the best FAKE Z28's
6) All had disc brakes on the front

And a bunch of other clues..........:spank:

All of the above and some more

Z/28's had multileaf rear springs.
All were 4 speeds
The area where the A/C evaporator would have gone is covered by black waterproof paper and tape.

Get a book on Z/28's and learn what VIN numbers to look for, but don't let that be the deciding factor because those have been faked also.

ChevyDude,
You should pick up on John Hoopers book " The 1969 Camaro Reference Book, from A to Z".It is published by J&D Publications. John lists about 50 things that will help you spot a real "Z". John is a Senior Judge for the United States Camaro Club.
A note to Duce... Why do Big Block Camaros make the best fake Z's? The heater outlets are in a completely different place on a Big Block Camaro.
Vern Bradford
P.S I wish people would stop using the word clone, Duce said it best "Fake".
