I had it bad about 5 years ago on my legs. By the time I noticed something was wrong and got to the hospital I could barley walk. I couldn't walk for 2 weeks. It spread to my arms and around my stomach. It was the most horrible experience I've been through. My legs were like bubble pack and constantly draining fluid. There are pic of my legs in a medical text book somewhere in Canada. The good news is it will eventually go away. Hang in.

Built a "tree" house on the ground out of logs at a cottage when I was 12, cleaned the floor of leaves with my bare hands...the floor turned out to be mostly poison ivy plants.

It was very bad and now I get excema in exactly the same place on my hands as the poison ivy was. No fun thats for sure.:(

Caladryl was the only over the counter med that worked for the itching.

I had it like Steve described once, masses of blisters on my legs. Big yellow crusty oozy ones. It drove me crazy. I took hot showers and scalded myself just to ease the itching. (I think it made it worse).

that stuff SUCKS!

my wife is super sensetive to it and gets it really easily. I go out and look for the plant and dig it up and put it in a plastic bag and throw it out with the trash.

I hope you get better.

It is a little strange that there is a post about poison ivy on here tonight since I just walked through a big patch of it today. I was out looking at a 54 Chevy truck that I might get and I spied this front clip to a 48-50 ford truck sitting in the weeds so I went over to check it out. on the way back I noticed that I had just walked through a bunch of poison ivy. It just got on my jeans and I took care not to touch them. As soon as I got home I peeled them off, threw them in the washer and washed them three times. I hope that is the end of it. About eight hours have passed and I don't feel anything yet.

I just got rid of it. Went out to work in the yard, and clear out a small area. Was wearing gloves and long pants. Pulled a vine and it hit my arm above the gloves. I knew when it happened that I was going to have it soon. Three days later I broke out, and it spread up my arm.

I have to wash my clothes myself when ever I get in that stuff. My wife has an extreme alergy to that stuff. Last time she got it, she was at the hospital several times before she got over it.

JUST DON'T BURN IT!

the stuff has never bothered me.
a few years back, i was helping my father in law build a deer blind... i went and got some vines to stencil in with paint..... never bothered me, but he got a severe case of it..... i still catch it over that..... i guess he never got over the case of poison oak he got from me a few years before that.......:spank:

I have a natural immunity to it. My friend and I were in the woods once and got into alot of it, he missed almost a week of school, everything was swollen. I was fine though.
pretty sure im the same way, i know i've been around it but I dont go rolling in the stuff to find out!

also if you ever get exposed to posion ivy in the woods, right next to every posion ivy patch i've ever seen is natures cure for posion ivy which is jewl weed i believe its called.

thanx everone

im doing much better now. i just took a long nap and i woke up to see that most of my swelling is gone i just have a rash still but its not as bad as when i woke up today in the morning. i also thought i was immune to it because i used to walk right through the stuff and never get anything i could even wipe my bung hole and not get anything but i guess im not anymore. now i have to watch where i go in the woods next time. it sucks when your eyes are swelling shut and when you close them it hurts more.

Get a little Clorox bleach and wipe on it. Dries it up pretty well. Luckily I don't seem to get it anymore and haven't for years. A friend of mine looks at it and will swell up with the major rash. Last time he had it looked like he gained 50 lbs. in his face alone.

I used to be that way, I could sit right in the stuff and not get a thing but all my sister had to do was get close to it and she broke out all over. I'm 49 and got it for the first time a couple months ago. I ran over a plant with the mower and the clippings blew back on my arm and neck. I didn't get it bad but looks like my immunity is gone. Maybe it was because I got fluid fromn the cut edges on me but once you get it you're more susceptible from then on. :(

I don't have a problem with it either, I guess you have to be allergic to it for it to effect you. When I was in Basic training in the Army, the drill Sargents though it would be fun for our platoon to go crawling through the stuff. The stuff never bothered me but it affected about 75% of my platoon, I felt sorry for those who were effected.
