AOD to 57 T-Bird

I have a 57 T-bird 312 with a 4bbl Holly Avenger.
They now make a conversion kit to replace the Fordomatic with the AOD. I plan on doing this over Xmas and need to collect parts now .
The question is the cable for the AOD will it hook into the carb or will I need brackets? I as*-u-me its set up like the 700R for adjusting?
If ford has the brackets, part numbers would be great.
Also is the AOD a .7 or .6 overdrive so I can order new rear-end gear.

Thanks

Crosley,
Thanks a bunch, yea learned all about TV adjustment on the first 700R I put behind a 57 Chev. Got about 50 miles out of the new rebuild!
This one I'm setting everything up will put it on car hauler and let a real transmission shop set the cable I don't care how simple it is!

If I can ask one more question,
The reason I'm doing the trans change is I'm tired of changing rear chunks twice a month depending how car is driven.
I have 4- 9" inch all 28 spline with large carrier bearings.
I'm going to keep the 3:56 and if I decide to sell the 2:73, 3:10 & 4:11
Whats a fair going price for these these chunks?
Thanks again!

Barry, Lokar can fix you up with the throttle and TV cable setup that sort of go hand in hand and a shifter as well. May as well go all out while you are at it. I have used all of them and they are easy to install, work great and look good. You may even want to go with their flexible tranny dip stick also, because you are going to really crowd your tunnel with the 700R4.

In my area 9" chunks will average $150, depending on condition, gears and splines. Plenty available.

Thanks Trees,

There is a guy an CA that make the conversion adapter and also makes a steel extension for the down shift rod so you don't need a TV cable (already bought) He also have made new shifter rods and trans mount and worked out speedo cable.
Little stuff like this just save a lot of chasing around and time.

Chunks sold two to ford dealer Friday $600. (they race mustang)

AOD

Sounds like you may know this already , but the final ratio on the AOD is .67 to 1.

Original idea of the design was good jump from start with good cruisability. Much of the design was lifted from the old cast iron FMX, into an aluminum case with an integral bellhousing.

The spirtual father of the idea was an old-time Ford guy named Glen Boston.

Personally, I love the fordomatic thats in it. 3sp but starts in second unless you mash it.
Whole problem is 3rd gear is 1:1 and the 312 has enough torque when I put in the 2:73 its not to bad around town and great on the long trips. with the 3:10 at 70 I'm doing 3,000 rpm with 3:56 doing about 3600.
Wife will drive this a couple days during week and she like the 3:56 for the take off power but this gear is just no good for the weekend getaway.
Plan is to leave 3:56 in and with the aod cruising will be about the 2:70 range.
What I did not know is the AOD will need to be beefed up to handle this motor, now that was a shocker this is the D model 245hp from factory and when I re did it, it ended up at 295 dyno.
Its funny the 3:10 will squawk the radials lose in all three gears
just leaving it in drive but she wants more!

Barry, we just finished a 56 Bird with the 312 motor and 3 speed auto. It sure does not perform any thing like yours so tell me more about what was done to your motor. I know your carb has to be better, but other than that, the original 56 and 57 312s with 4 barrels were identical.

Went 60 over, replaced everything but crank. Forged pistons,
got the murmet roller rockers, biggest work was on heads ported and polished. Put original carb in cupboard and put on new Holly.
Heads milled .020.
I believe the rockers made the next biggest difference next to heads and cam & carb.
Headers would really do it, but wanted out side original.
This was a tough project as engine was perfect when I tore it down and its my wifes car so wanted more HP but had to idle smooth and be reliable for her.
It idles at about 900 vs 500 before.
