A good picture of the arm rest would help us help you... Did you get the door handles off yet ???

Uses the tool I posted on your other thread... There is a u shape clip behind the door handle... That tool will pop the clip out of the handle,, Then it will come off...

You're right, that is riveted on. You need to remove the window handles, the door handle, and loosen the clips holding the panel to the metal door. There will probably be a bracket or brackets (held in place by those rivets) on the back side of the panel that slip into holes in the door which were used to provide support for the armrest. The door panel will have to be lifted up to release the brackets so you can remove it from the metal door.

This is the best clip removing tool I have ever found.

 

If you are only going to 'one-time' this door handle, don't bother buying the tool. Just use a shop rag, slide the rag in behind the crank handle part and with a sawing motion pull the rag back and forth. The steel clip that retains the handle will grab the rag as you work it and spring out of its groove in the handle allowing you to remove the handle.

To replace the handle, insert the clip in its proper groove in the handle, set the handle over the crank stud and hit it on with the palm of your hand.

 

The shop rag trick works when there is space under the handles for the rag to maneuver. If the handle is tight to the door panel it may not work.

 

GcChick, the 60 Rambler doesn't have that clip. Instead it has a rubber base between the handle and door. Push the rubber in and you will see a pin hole. Push the rubber in at the bottom once you find the hole and the pin will fall out (catch it!!). The spring clips weren't used until 63.

Looks like the arm rest is indeed riveted to the door panel. It should come off with the panel. Once you get the clips out of the edge of the panel, slide the panel about 1/2" TO THE BACK (toward the back of the car) then pull the panel off. There is a stud that goes in a keyway behind the panel. Don't grind the rivets off!!

I suggest you check E-bay or Faxon Auto Literature for a 1960 Rambler TSM (Technical Service Manual -- the factory repair manual). That will prove most helpful, well worth the $30-60 it will cost!!
