OK, All you Buick engine guru's, I have a question reference the Buick 231 V6. Which is better, the Even fire or the Odd fire?. From all my research, the odd fire runs rougher at idle but appears to be a tougher engine for longevity. I am asking because I am considering a replacement for a Jeep engine. The "Dauntless 225" was a odd fire buick design used in a lot of early 60's jeeps and appeared to be a good powerplant. I have never used either and just want input from someone that has experience with these engines. Thanks.

off fire

Odd fire cranks are supposed to be stronger since they have more metal overlap in the crank throw and centerline. I have an odd fire in one of my Track T bucket projects out of a V 6 vega Project that a guy crashed a couple of times. Engine has a holly 4 BBl and hotter cam. With the odd fire you HAVE to get the Distributor and spark plug wireing done to the shop manual or you will have 3 cylinders firing to the timing mark and 3 off by 18 degrees or what ever your crank is off per odd fire.
