Ford makes 2 flexplates, a 157tooth and a 164tooth flexplate. Which one is for which transmission?

I am balancing my 351w and the machinist told me that only the 157flexplate will work with a C-4 transmission. The problem is the C-4 torque converter I bought only bolts to a 164 tooth flexplate because it has the larger 11.5" bolt pattern, the bolt pattern is too big to fit the 157tooth flexplate. Anyone know the actual applications for the 2 different flexplates? I am starting to think my machinist is wrong but I though I would ask you guys.

C4's had both 157 and 164 tooth bells. The 157 bell has ribs going all the way down to the case. The 164 looks more balloon-like and ribs stop halfway down the bell.

My C5 is the same case design as the C4 and I have a 164 tooth flexplate and bellhousing.

I'm pretty sure that ALL C6's had the 164 also.

But C4's can go either way.

Beware of the depth of the bell though, the C4 164 tooth bell looks identical to the C5 one. The C5 one is just a little bit shorter.
